Storyline:
Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. returns as the blacksmith Flavio in the second installment of Ang Panday franchise. Here he goes on a quest to save his ladylove Maria, played by Iza Calzado, from the clutches of his evil nemesis Lizardo, portrayed by Philip Salvador.
If the first Ang Panday movie, released two years ago was already heavy on special visual effects, it sequel aims to top that.
“It was meant to be bigger and better than the first one,” declares director Mac Alejandre. “It was meant to be a visual spectacle and ‘yon ang direksiyon na pinupuntahan niya. Grabe ang CGI [computer-generated imagery]! More than half of the film mat CGI.”
During the 35th Metro manila Film Festival Awards Night back in 2009, Ang Panday went home with a slew of awards including Best Picture and Best Actor for Bong Revilla. But for Direk mac, he doesn’t feel any pressure to duplicate the franchise’s winning streak.
“Hindi kami gumagawa ng pelikula for the awards. mali namang objective ‘yon. We want to enetertain. We are hoping it will be a bigger hit; ‘yon malinaw sa ‘min ‘yon. That’s why we’re working so hard. If only because we need to keep on working on our effects and by the looks of movies like this, we seem to be improving, then yes, we must give our support. In hindsight however, you can put any leading lady here and it would still work because this is bigger than life so an actress who wants to be taken seriously and has other great things in her horizon should just let this one pass. Still, it should be entertaining and my only regret is not having another actor play the great Panday. Maybe it is just me, but I would rather keep my distance from the infamous Revilla clan.

Manonood lang ang mga tao ng Panday hindi dahil kay Marian Rivera. I think this is her best portrayal for a Fantasy-themed movie. Curious sila sa mundo ni Marian and her connection to Flavio from the previous movie

We love Marian kahit ano pa ang intriga na ibato niya sa kanya dami pa rin siyang tagahanga, kawawa na man ang mga tao na di matanggap na sikat si Marian, may talent at sobrang ganda pa. Sa mga haters ni Marian kayu ang laos. Marian is totoong tao kahit nasa showbiz, what you see is what you get in her.
