Sex videos diminish us all

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 8:12 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2009

We’re at an all-time low.

Today’s voyeur scene is alive and well and overrun by sex videos. There is the Katherine Luna and ex-boyfriend sex video. There are the Hayden Kho and Brazilian, plus celebs, sex videos. And there is the threat of even more sex videos exploding, one of them reportedly involving a young star with an impeccable image. But of these, it is the Hayden Kho-Katrina Halili sex video which is currently all the rage.

That, in fact, should be the dominant word in all this. Rage that has nothing to do with being hot, even if these videos are the hottest ticket in town; rage that has only to do with feelings of revulsion and repugnance.

For these are the exact emotions we must be feeling—if we’re to remain human, if we’re to deserve the consciousness that alone separates us from the animals we share this earth with.

Equally vital, we must feel just these for the right reason.

And the right reason has to be that, with every second these videos are viewed, a human being is violated, and that, with each violation, the entire human race is diminished just that little bit more.

The women on that screen did not know, and did not consent, to being the lead players in a sex video.

Or, if initially they had knowledge, they’d been made to understand that these were for their private use, and they never at any time consented to having the videos go public.

Those captured moments were part of the natural, transactional intimacy between the women and their lovers. That is obvious. And in that setting, certainly, they’d undress. Certainly, they’d kiss each other wherever and whenever. Certainly, they’d abandon reason to lust, be servile and slavish or dominant and in control, whichever makes them happy. And who’s to do otherwise? That is what lovemaking is!

Unfortunately, we’re a society with an unhealthy discomfiture and curiosity about sex. So caught up are we in our religiosities and small-mindedness and duplicities, we’re conditioned to see sex as a thing to hide. We’re prudes, in short. As such, many of us-the female species included—look on with both scorn and envy at women with fearless views about their bodies and their sexuality. (Say I’m wrong.)

Back-ending this ugliness is our double standard of morality. We’ve heard this line to death, but it was true then and it’s true now. We’re not distressed just by sex as a subject, we’re especially distressed by it when it involves women. We’re also idiotic enough to think that men lose nothing, even if they’re the studs in the sex video and never agreed to perform for strangers. We just assume the men score. We just know the women are ruined.

It’s not even because we put women up on a pedestal, or respect them inordinately, or feel this compulsion to protect them. No, every day that is getting harder to believe.

Because, if that were so, we wouldn’t be making a fiesta out of viewing these videos that violate women!

We wouldn’t be standing around our desks and calling everyone to come and watch—like it was just another television show, like it was entertainment, like no real lives were involved.

We wouldn’t be hosting small private parties and showcasing these videos via high-definition equipment, while we sipped our drinks and made polite dinner talk.

We wouldn’t be texting friends to provide the links to these sites.

And we wouldn’t be snickering and guffawing, while slobbering all over the place with lewd jokes.

Nope, the only reason we distress over women in these videos is because we think they’re cheap. We see them as beneath us. They give us a bad name. We fancy ourselves never getting caught up in something like this. From our safe little worlds, we think we’re above it all.

In the first place, why should making love be beneath us? What’s abhorrent about lovemaking? As to never getting caught up with love and lust—why, that’d be totally missing out on one really robust human experience! And if we actually place ourselves above all physical intimacy—not as vocation and choice, but as issue of distaste for the act—that must be when our hearts are shriveled, like sun-dried prunes.

And why can’t this scandal happen to us? Or to our sisters, nieces, cousins, daughters?

Katrina was a pretty, 21-year-old who was earning her keep in 2007, when she fell in love with Hayden, then a handsome, 27-year-old doctor of medicine. Except for the fact that the doctor was publicly known to be the boyfriend of Vicki Belo, a doctor much wealthier and far older than he, there was nothing especially scary about him. And except for the fact that Katrina was already FHM’s sexiest woman in the world the year before, and would be voted so again that year, there was nothing especially different about her.

She was just a young, liberated working girl, full of life, with the world before her—much like our sisters and nieces and cousins and daughters. And like many of these girls, at some point Katrina fell in love, and gave her all to her man.

She was also not an insensitive girl. In my interview with her early this year, for YES! Magazine, she acknowledged that Vicki Belo was an issue in her relationship with Hayden. This is how she handled it: She played the suffering wife. Her man and Vicki could go out in the open and enjoy their partnership; she would stay in the condo and wait for when he could find time for her. She never imposed on his schedule; she waited, even if oftentimes she cried while doing so. By denying herself the pleasures of having long conversations with him, of eating out in restaurants with him, of attending showbiz events with him as escort, she believed she was already paying for her sins to Vicki.

By her reckoning, she was behaving as decently as any woman in love could. A woman, by the way, who had been told by her man that she was his other partner “in a parallel life.”

Since then, she has admitted on national television: “Ang tanga-tanga ko. Pero na-in love ako. Pasensiya na po…”

Indeed, how was she to know this doctor would have a fetish for videos? How was she to know there would be a sick environment around the good-looking fellow—of a world seemingly measured by luxury goods and travel, with friends he has wronged and who hated him, of a whole value system neither educated nor decent?

It is she who has been violated here. It is Katrina who has been abused—not once, or twice, but thrice! First, when her lover took videos of their most sexual moments without her knowledge and consent. Second, when some heartless bastards uploaded the videos on the Net. And third, when an unthinking, unfeeling public viewed the videos and enjoyed themselves.

KATRINA’S VIDEOS. As early as May 9, with the rumblings of a Hayden sex video starting to mount, I told the PEP staff that no way would we upload. This didn’t even have to be about Katrina, whom I  know personally. This could’ve been about any girl, a complete stranger, and I would still say no.

I don’t even think anyone should ask why. It is just so plain and so clear, there is no need for reason or discourse. It just takes instinct. Intuition. Reflex. It’s a gut thing. A sense of right and wrong kicking in. A universal moral language, if you will.

This is a video, after all, that has pained, tainted, exposed, stripped naked, humiliated, and practically killed the soul of a girl of 23. This girl, whose only crime is that she fell in love with the wrong man, now suffers the once-pure joys of her affections and trust being made entertainment fodder by anyone with access to a computer. She is a woman against whom stones have been cast.

Let me make this clear again because I will not align myself with the censors of this earth: I am not revolted by a sex video because of its scenes of intimacies in bed—or on the couch or in the powder room or wherever two consenting adults desire to unleash their love and lust at each other. The moments between lovers—be they gentle or wild, physical or verbal, cerebral or carnal—are to me an issue of joy. I maintain that making love has to be one of the most powerful intimacies of all time.

But these sex videos circulating of Katrina Halili and Hayden Kho are a different matter altogether. They no longer fall under moments between lovers. They’ve become moments of monstrous aggression by one partner against another.

Hayden has shamed and disrespected Katrina, a woman who had loved him with all the faith of her youth. And whether he ever loved her back or not, he had no right to put her in harm’s way. Even if he never intended for the videos to be found by another soul, he had no right to include an unsuspecting girl in his inglorious playtime.

Hayden Kho should not be allowed to live this down for the rest of his natural-born life.

On May 10, the first video arrived in PEP, along with three screen captures. They were sent by some anonymous bloke who probably thought he/she was doing us a favor. Well, wrong again. I refused to even look at the video or the pictures. There was never any upload.

As the days passed, we heard about more videos. These were now reaching private emails and more sites. Still, PEP would not budge. Instead, I called Omar Sortijas, Katrina’s handler. Beyond my instinctive response, I wanted to know the facts.

Did Katrina know the videos were being taken?

What about a fourth video that is said to be the most graphic?

Naka-webcam ata iyon.”

Omar also says that they’ve spoken to Hayden, who finally admitted to having made four videos. Hayden has also given them the names of the only other people with a copy of these videos—people he is said to strongly suspect caused the upload of the videos on the Net. Katrina’s father and some lawyers are already meeting to help out Katrina. Prominent personalities have also begun to speak up on her behalf.

But overall, emotions aren’t stable. For a long time, Katrina felt down because her mother, who has not spoken to her because of this scandal, finally got on the phone with her a few days back, only to end up giving her a big, angry sermon. She may deserve it, Omar admits, but it is not something she needs now. In fact, Katrina told Omar, it is something she cannot handle now.

Then just before she went onboard for the May 16 StarTalk interview, Katrina seemed  all right, was neat, and fairly composed, Omar says. But when the questions started coming, she just broke down and couldn’t stop. Everything was captured on TV.

But more recently, she was buoyed up again, this time by calls from fellow young stars, all of whom felt very badly for her, and the seeming helplessness of it all.

I said to Omar that I was thankful Katrina was a strong girl. Another girl might have been suicidal by now. But I was taken aback by Omar’s reply. He said, “Natatakot nga ako. Kasi ang batang iyon, pabigla-bigla magdisisyon. At malakas ang loob niyang gawin ang gusto niyang gawin. Kaya hangga’t maaari, ayoko siyang naiiiwan mag-isa. Paggaling ko ng taping, takbo na ako run sa kanya kaagad.”

THE PRESS. I’m buoyed up myself by colleagues. All the ones I spoke to uniformly feel disgust and sadness with the sex videos. At a press conference for Sharon Cuneta’s latest album of kiddie songs, Children’s Rhymes and Lullabies, I was at a table with various writers. Here is what they had to say:

Mario Bautista, who writes for the Manila Bulletin, among other print outfits: “Hayden and the people who posted it in the Net should be taken to court.”

Nora Calderon, contributor to PEP, referring to Hayden Kho: “Wala ba siyang nanay o kapatid na babae?”

Remy Umerez, columnist for People’s Journal: “Dios na ang bahala sa kanila.”

Another person at the table was Baby Gil, VIVA Entertainment Inc. vice president for corporate public relations. She said: “The people who did this are sick!”

I myself thought of all the sickos out there doing harm to Katrina, and I asked myself what the giant GMA-7 is doing for her at this time. She is now in the fight of her life. She’s fighting all these sickos on all fronts, and she needs every bit of help she can get from a company she has served well.

Finally, I asked Allan Madrilejos, the editor-in-chief of FHM, where Katrina is a favorite cover girl, how he felt. Allan, visibly affected by all this, did not want to say a few inadequate words that were no match for his thoughts. He sent this email instead:

“Katrina Halili’s thread in the ( is one of the most viewed threads in our forum.

“That it’s buzzing with tremendous outpouring of support for Katrina in light of the recent and rapid circulation of her controversial sexy videos with Dr. Hayden Kho says so much about how much FHM’s only two-time 100 Sexiest Women in The World Campaign winner is loved.

“This is not blind love at play here, but understanding, one that is rooted in respect for Katrina, her privacy, her right to defend herself.

“The unfortunate spread of these sexy videos is totally irresponsible, a low blow that’s very much undeserved. It has come at a time when the issue has been milked dry to its juiciest bit.

“Yes, we know Katrina has made a mistake. She has bravely and humbly faced the problem head on, coming out on national TV in December and later sitting down with YES! for an exclusive in its March issue.

“She has sincerely  apologized for all the hurt she had caused. Hasn’t she shed enough tears?

“We at FHM know Katrina to be a survivor and we sincerely wish she’d summon the courage to fight on. How and when she decides to launch her counter-attack is totally up to her.

“She rightfully deserves a moment to cry, to be outraged, to just be with herself, her family and friends, to evaluate her moves, to pick up the pieces, to move on. It will be a battle, true, but there is strength in knowing there are people who believe in her.

“We wish this could ease her burden somehow.”

If words can make things right… I wouldn’t mind pouring in the words and the emotions that would change things around. Not just for Katrina, but for all the other girls violated by these sex videos, and all the girls and boys who will yet be violated, if shame doesn’t visit us all soon.

As a woman, I agree with you Ms. Jo-Ann and to all who understand what Katrina’s going through. My husband and I have seen some part of the videos, and we could feel nothing but so sorry for this girl.. I just hope that Katrina would keep fighting and remain strong as she’s being scrutinized by some insensitive people. She needs the support of Kababaihan and all other victims of this evil Hayden Kho.

All you need to do Katrina is to really really be brave in facing all of these… everything will have its end… but dont forget that you were also an accomplice of this act for participating in it… but the sudden upload of it, is really very irresponsible and unmanful of whoever did it…

just stay strong for your family and never mind your fans.. because if your fans are really intelligent and understanding enough, then your first apology should have been accepted…

be stronger and have faith… everything will end soon

Hayden Kho is obviously gay trying hard to be a womanizer showing all his lustful videos to prove that he’s a man but indeed he’s so gay from head to toe but he can’t show it to everyone. He’s a closet pervert doctor sicko gay. He should take his own videos doing it with another guy instead but he knows he can’t do that because he’s trying too hard to be a macho, a macho dancer indeed!

pano mo pagtitiwalaan ang doktor na to?

and for the first time, napahanga mo ako ng Senator Bong Revilla. regardless of what people are saying na politika lang to ni senator or blah blah…bottomline, we/most esp. women will be protected from this kind of misfortunes.

those videos and the sight of sicko hayden kho get me really worked up.

HAYDEN KHO is soooooooooo SICK! Bong Revilla is right, this man should be stripped off with his license as a doctor. HAYDEN KHO is a PERVERT OF THE HIGHEST KIND!!! He is sick! I would never, never in my entire life go to this man and ask for his services. He is sick and he’s not mentally stable to treat patients. He’s not practicing his profession anyway because he knows he can get more money from Vicky. To you Joan, I applaud you for writing this blog.

i feel for katrina and her woman deserves what is happening to goes without saying that she had her faults, the greatest of which is having such little respect for herself that she entered a “secret” relationship.whether blinded by attention or affection or even lust, the poor unsuspecting girl was abused over and over again by an ass preventing to be a man.what a jerk!many would say that its her karma,or even that she deserved it,but who amongst us did not do anything stupid when we honestly thought we are in love?i wouldn’t wish this scandal to my worst enemy.

moreover, what is the point of releasing this in public? the “separation” happened so many months ago.the parties have moved on.there’s a rumor that two are a couple again(which is beyond my comprehension, but that’s another story)the affair itself was 2 years ago!the only person who is sicker that hayden is the evil one who uploaded this to the net.that is assuming hayden himself didn’t have anything to do with maybe a final proof that none of the women mattered to him besides his “princess”.GOD forbid that the princess has given a go signal.nonetheless, the recording to its uploading to the net is PURE EVIL!for what was the point?who are they destroying?

as a mother, i feel for the mothers of these women.when we received email containing these videos, admittedly curiosity got the better of me and opened it.but after a couple of minutes,i was sick to my stomach and could no longer continue.again, what a jerk!i just hope the girls rise above this,i dont know how but im praying they would.

i just hopet that justice would be served.hopefully this wont be made into another grandstanding by seemingly concerned politicians. as to the perverts who are behind this may you burn in hell!(and the soonest the better)

From hitad to heroine?

At the center of the current sex video controversy is Starstruck alumna Katrina Halili. Sexy videos of her rendezvous with former multi-timing boyfriend Hayden Kho have surfaced and now being widely circulated on the Internet and being sold by your favorite pirated DVD peddler.

She has cried foul and called herself a victim. Grandstanding politicos came to her rescue and gave their speeches in Congress and in front of the media. The leading women’s rights group and lady activists defended their new poster girl for feminism.

It is very uncanny that only a few months ago, she was being scorned by the public for being the “other woman” who was responsible for breaking up the May-December affair of Kho and Dr. Vicki Belo.

Did the release of these videos absolve the starlet of her misdeeds in the past? Was she successful in shedding her “hitad” image to become a heroine?

This is very well-written. I detest the fact that we all think it is the women who have everything to lose. And it’s true that all of us are diminished or degraded by the proliferation of these videos.

I disagree, however, on one point:

“She was also not an insensitive girl. By denying herself the pleasures of having long conversations with him, of eating out in restaurants with him, of attending showbiz events with him as escort, she believed she was already paying for her sins to Vicki.”

Inasmuch as i support Katrina in this fight and that no one deserves to be in the position that she is right now, i would not exactly downplay her act of cheating. It is in no way acceptable regardless of how the other woman sacrifices or behaves. We are all accountable for the consequences of our actions (sex video NOT included).

But that is not the issue. You’re absolutely right that the women should not be judged at all. It was by no fault of theirs that the videos were made public.

Nice one ms. joan. As a woman also, I do my own little way in showing support for Katrina’s fight by not watching the videos. I have all the opportunity to do so but I opted not. A friend of mine texted me if I wanted to watch the videos since he has all four, I texted back that I have no intention of doing so and instead admonished him that he should stop sharing the said videos “dahil kawawa nman si Katrina”. I am not a Kat fan but my heart goes out to her, I just pray that she will be given justice. I also hope her family, especially her mother, would be the first ones she can run to. I just wonder what is GMA7 doing for her. And to our lawmakers, pakibilisan ang pagpasa ng batas laban sa “voyeurism” bago pa kayo mismo ang makita sa mga videos. Sa mga tao na merong said videos, please stop the sharing, let’s pity the girl, may mga nanay at kapatid na babae din tayo. Just my two cents.

katrina has been apologizing for sometime…public apology at that…hindi madaling umamin at magsisi sa harap ng camera. you have your pride, image and self-respect to protect and consider. pero kat did that…and the public is forgiving…then came this video…from whatever angle you looked at it, mabababoy talaga ang pagkatao ng kahit sinong babae…talong talo si katrina dito…at yung walanghiyang lalake, nasaan? ayun nagpapasarap…but then, just look at the positive side of it. there are people who are helping katrina find her way back. sana nga lang mas mabigyan sya ng support ng GMA, which she served for the longest time… at sana matapos na itong problema nya…she’s still young…may future pa sya… at sana maging lesson ito sa ibang tao…wag gawing laro-laro ang pagvivideo ng mga se-x-ual fantasies…dapat parusahan ang dapat maparusahan…

I watched those 3 videos out of curiosity, I feel bad for these girls, obviously they are not aware that their deed was being taped. Sick Hayden Kho must pay for all the damage. My husband said, “Hindi nakakaarouse panuorin yan, nakakaawa sila… lalo na yung sa model/doctor. nabiktima sila ng sira ulong hayden na yun”
This words came from a guy na hindi pala porke sex videos same ang effect to them.

to the media: please stop showing those clips and pictures on national tv. you’re not helping, it makes the situation even worst… instead, find hayden and make him suffer!!

exactly my sentiments, ma’am…

this has been the subject of my discussions with my friends. katrina had asked for apology to the public, to dra. belo a couple of times. when in fact, biktima rin sha, pinaniwala sha nung lalaki. women, unfortunately, can be gullible when it comes to matters of the heart. so sad but so true. their intimate moments were private. same as with both the models. they did not know that a camera was sneakily recording their moments of passion. making love is, and should be, an act between two consenting individuals. it is not meant to be viewed by the whole world. what “that” man did to these women is disgusting. nevermind that he is a medical doctor, nevermind that he came from an affluent family and never mind that he attended Christian school. he should be punished, for him to feel remorse on what he had inflicted on these ladies. ladies, whose dignity and right to privacy were seriously violated.

Not because Katrina has been crying in public people could already say she is a victim. Pls be reminded people that wala sanang video if hinde sya pumatol sa may GF. All mistakes has its own consequences. She just got hit with a very bad Karma for her wrong doings. Oo nga she is sorry for her mistake and she admited it only after she denied it for a thousand times. She only admited it nung naiipit na sya because there were evidences. I am against Doc Hayden for taking the video w/o the Katrina’s consent and I agree that sana mawalan cya ng license for what he did.
Katrina wasn’t forced to have sex with Doc Hayden. She did it voluntarily eventhough she know the guy has a GF and her boss. People are very one sided lalo na pag may nakitang tao na nagiiyak. Did you even thnk na baka hinde din c Doc Hayden ang nag labas ng video or c Doc Belo? Be open minded.

I admit the fact that if I am the mother of Katrina manggagalaiti rin ako sa galit sa anak ko na kung bakit siya nagpakat@nga sa taong alam niyang may karelasyon na. It could be also hard for me na humarap sa mga tao nandahil sa matinding kahihiyan. Though of course at the same time as a mother and a woman hindi ako makakapayag na sirain ang dignidad ng kapamilya ko.

I agree, Katrina might have made a mistake, but a mistake out of love. And we must commend her not for her acts but for her humility in accepting her mistakes in PUBLIC.

Right now, what she needs is understanding and support, not only from her fans but I believe her FAMILY as well as the NETWORK where she works, should at least be beside her and support her even if it causes them shame. Getting mad and insult from people she loves is the last thing she needs, this won’t help her. It has been done, what can they do about it?

Ms. Maglipon, please let Katrina know that with what is going on, there are still people who pray for her peace of mind and wellness, like me….

Despite my concurrence with the most part of this essay, I think that if you are going to talk about “universal moral language” then adhere to it and avoid double standards. If you say that Katrina Halili was abused by Hayden Kho and all the people involved in the leakage of the sex videos, then don’t conveniently diminish the extent of Katrina’s betrayal of Vicki Belo just to get your point across. Don’t pass it off as Katrina’s youthful “mistake” because “she fell in love”. Her being a “suffering wife” is by no means an atonement of her sins to Vicki Belo because Katrina made that choice to play with fire. We cannot judge if Katrina’s pain is more than that of Vicki’s. If you are going to talk about the moral issue about the scandalous videos, stick to your point and don’t talk about other sins at the same breath, as if they’re of the same degree.

Although your intentions were obviously well-meant, I think that you should be more consistent. If you are going to care about one woman, care for every single one of us. The message of your essay is further confusing the already blurring morality of our people.

very well said Madame….

but sad to say i will never sympathize with katrina.had she ever thought of the consequences of her action during the time that she was so lustful with hayden?had she ever thought of the pain that dra. belo felt during the time of betrayal?tears are not enough to say that she was sorry.she knew from the very beginning she was making the biggest mistake of her life and yet she did let her emotion over-ruled her capability to control her lust.saying sorry and crying in national tv is not enough to pay for the pain she had inflicted to the person who treated her as her own.
i am speaking based on my personal experience.i caught my husband having an affair with my bestfriend and the the grieving process is so painful as you wouldn’t expect someone so close to your heart can betray you like that.they both enjoyed the moment making out while the wife thought he was on a business trip but it end up a monkey business.
so this kind of species for me is trash,a garbage to the society who does nothing but ruin the reputation of the woman race.
for hayden the man with a brain of a boy…sad to say a pervert will always be a pervert….as what the saying goes the leopard will never change its spots.
belo let go of this guy.he only uses you for your money.if he truely loves you he will never go behind your back lusting and making out with another woman.
don’t give second chances because i didn’ matter what pleading nor begging he did.even the species.forgiveness takes time and forgetting will never the end they realized that the woman they betrayed and hurt stood out the winner… after all i still have the dignity to show myself to the public and say I am the first kinabit ka lang.

i agree that in the sense that whenever a scandal is released in public , the level of us being humans degrades us to being beasts ..

i couldn’t help but pity our society..

but what’s making this worse are the HYPOCRITES who now manages to make eloquent senate speeches..clamoring that Mr. Kho is a pervert and all.. well sorry to say Mr. senator…so do you..

kung kay pacquiao at spiderman ” having great power means great responsibility”

I am a woman and I’ve been a person who’s gender sensitive since I don’t know when. Let me just react on some lines in the post above.

Let me set things clear. I totally agree that Hayden Kho is a jerk or whatever people would want to call him and I agree that women has to be respected and no one (men or women) deserves to be treated and placed in shame like how the victims are suffering etc, etc etc so do not call me a supporter of Kho or whoever for I am not.

I just dont agree with the quoted lines above.

She was also not an insensitive girl. She knows for a fact that Hayden Kho is with Dra. Vicki Belo yet she had a relationship with him so she was insensitive, wasn’t she? She was insensitive to what Dra. Vicki Belo might feel had she discovered that they were having an affair (Kho and Halili). She’s a woman and falling in love will never be a valid excuse to be with someone who is committed, especially that Kho and Belo are public figures. She was insensitive, wasn’t she?

In my interview with her early this year, for YES! Magazine, she acknowledged that Vicki Belo was an issue in her relationship with Hayden. Vicki Belo is the (known in public) girlfriend of Kho so obviously, she will be an issue in their illicit relationship. Duh?

This is how she handled it: She played the suffering wife. Her man and Vicki could go out in the open and enjoy their partnership; she would stay in the condo and wait for when he could find time for her. She never imposed on his schedule; she waited, even if oftentimes she cried while doing so. If she’s in a healthy state of mind, she should have anticipated and she should have prepared herself for this knowing that she’s with a man who is very well known to be in a relationship. For crying out loud, there’s no way she will get any sympathy for doing those things. You agreed to be a mistress (for the lack of a better word) then you expect that you can face the world with that man? Whatever happened to common sense? Sorry but I believe from the bottom of my heart, you deserve all the pain you are claiming you felt that time.

By denying herself the pleasures of having long conversations with him, of eating out in restaurants with him, of attending showbiz events with him as escort, she believed she was already paying for her sins to Vicki. Sorry but you were not paying for your sins to Vicki Belo by doing those things that time. Using an analogy, if I steal a piece of apple from the seller and did not eat it does that mean I am paying for the sin of stealing the apple? Will that make me less of a thief? Come on!

Again, I believe that women (and men) should be respected. I believe that Hayden Kho already bought a one way ticket to hell this early but please, do not justify what Katrina Halili did as if she’s all good and clean because she also had her share of faults in here.

ang tanong ko lang diyan, ano ginagawa ng gma7 para proteksyunan ang interest ni katrina. hindi pwedeng maging bystander lang sila dito. talent nila si katrina. they have to take a stand or are they quiet because they are afraid of losing the income from Belo’s ads. Dito naman ako bilib sa abs-cbn kasi todo proteksyon sila sa mga talent nila – from Piolo to Failon, alam mo agad where they stand.

ms. joan, in my personal point of view, wala pong victim dyan s sex video na yan. yah i am i woman too, and i will feel bad and violated if the same case would happen to me. pero how could that possibly happen to me if i know that i am doing the right thing. paano po nakakaawa c ms, katrina if the very fact pa lang po na pumasok cia in a relationship wid mr. kho who was with ms. belo then, e kasalanan na nia yon. alam na niang mali pinasukan nia pa. does she realized the hurt she cause the other lady at that time; how she violated the other’s right to be happy with his man and not become also the topic of showbiz industry for some time. ang alam lang po ni katrina at this point is the pain she is feeling right now. what about the pain she caused ms. belo? inalam nia ba un before cia nakapagflirt kay kho?
yah malaki ang kasalanan ni mr. kho. pero di po ba tayong mga babae kahit gaano tayo pilitin ng mga lalake, if we know what is right, if we respect others and ourselves, if we were brought up wid fear of God, we won’t indulge in sexual acts esp. pag alam natin na may naaapakan na tayo.
katrina decided to entertain the pleasures she wanted, bakit po ngaun na naniningil na ang tadhana wid her worldly deeds, iyak cia ng iyak sa tv, humihingi ng saklolo kung kanikanino. sana inisip nia muna yan before cia enjoy na enjoy sumayaw sa video.
how can u make me believe that she didn’t know all the videos. it is so easy to say na hindi nia alam. paniniwalaan ko ba cia if all the while she fooled the public wid regard to her relationship wid kho.
all i see now is that she is doing this ngaun coz first nawawalan na cia ng projects. she wants to give the full blame to kho. di ba ginusto nia rin yan. when she was enjoying nagpatulong ba cia sa mga senador?
sorry ms. katrina pero u deserve the pain ur experiencing. pain begets pain. nakasakit ka ng loob kaya ngaun ikaw and nasasaktan. u destroyed a relationship and when everything falls back unto u hindi mo matanggap.
ms. katrina, why not learn to face this fight in a very mature manner. accept ur mistakes, face them in a manner na di ka nagpapakaawa in public. bumangon ka in a manner na di mo kailangan manghila ng makakasama mo dyan sa ibaba.
thank u and sorry, personal point of view lang po

Kho should be responsible of his actions. I do not believe that he is the real man who uploaded this online of course because it is his reputation also ruins here. But because he did not keep safe of the files this is what he gets. I did not see the videos yet it seems nababoy na c Kat for some people na humusga immediately eh. I am a woman and I felt for her.

I appreciate your value and respect of Katrina and other girls involved in the videos. I’m a mother & a wife and I got very concerned and afraid of the kind of society my daughter is growing up in. Just a thought though (and this is not to judge anyone), I don’t think what Hayden did to those women is in any way form of love making. If he truly loved any one of them he wouldn’t hide taking the videos while they were having sex. It would be something he would ask of them out of respect. At the end of the day let this be a lesson to young women out there not to do something that they’re not sure they can protect themselves with the consequences.

i emphatize & sympathize with Katrina. It is true that she committed a mistake by falling in love with a guy who is committed. But can you blame a young girl who is so in love? I am not saying that what Katrina did is right. What I am trying to point out is that Katrina already felt & have said sorry a lot of times for falling in love with the wrong guy.

To those who are critical of Katrina because of the perceived “villain” role she played in the love story between Vicky Belo and Hayden Kho, is it hard to accept and understand that she already admitted her fault many times and felt remorseful about it? Don’t you think Vicky Belo is also part of Kho getting morally corrupt by lavishing him with luxuries just to keep him?

I believe it was never Ms. Maglipon’s intention to ignore the side of other victims. What moved her to give emphasis on Katrina’s case is because it was only Katrina who made the bold move to come out to expose the indignities she suffered from this scandal. How would the public sympathize with Maricar Reyes if she is so scared or ashamed to face the consequences of a showdown just in case?

So dapat pala tagalog ang comment?

O sige.

No matter what Katrina’s detractors say, the case against Kho has been filed. Kung merong nakikisawsaw, politico man, artista or just the plain public, it is everybody’s prerogative being in a free country. At this point, being nasty at her despite her contrition is uncalled for. We may not realize what and how it feels to be in such situation until the same thing happens to us.

The upshot of the saying “what goes around comes around” has already hit Katrina but it’s heartening to note that she recognized the folly of the relationship she had entered into and is ready to face the consequence whatever it may cost her.

Unfortunately Katrina used the wrong words. She was trying to say na she was binababoy sa simula pa lang? What does she mean by that? Obviously she appeared to me like she is using the present situation to gain public sympathy. Oo nakakaawa sya pero how about careless whisper na aware na aware sya and was indeed careless? Madali akong maawa pero I use my judgment wisely. She is but not so worth my pity because she is a relationship wrecker in the first place. …. and oh yes, hayden is sick. He really is. However, Hayden is not lone to be blame on Katrina-Hayden scandal. You know why Katrina, you know very well sa mga contribution mo sa kasalanan nyong dalawa. You may not need my sympathy Katrina pero as a babae din na may karelasyon, it’s hard for me to pity you to the fullest extent! You don’t deserve it. I know you are troubled and all but please lang, stay sincere. I saw you SNN interview. Days before that, you were so believable and sincere enough that I feel your sorrow. Pero in that SNN inteview, namulat ako. You appeared trying so hard to win back peoples trust on you. Desperately! It takes more than awa to weigh things out Katrina. Mind over matter specifically. Just face the consequences of your actions Katrina and let there be sincere remorse on your part as well. Karma is one thing that makes the world fair! Face it, learn from it and you should be fine.

But then, lahat naman nagkakamali.

I will be very dissapointed kung ang sasabihin mo ay oo, wala silang karapatang magreklamo at magdemanda.

At dito sa issue na ito, whether you like it or not, victim si Katrina. Naabuso ang karapatan at dignidad niya. Tulad ni Maricar at iba pa. Is Katrina a hero?

I don’t get what most of the people here are saying. Are we saying that since Katrina snuck behind Vicki Belo’s back, she got what she deserved? Yes, what she did was wrong, but by us condemning Katrina because of her “loose morals” as other people would say it, would that solve the problem that is Hayden Kho?

So, because Katrina placed herself in this situation, does this mean that her family shouldn’t also be spared by all this humiliation? Don’t you think that she has had enough with all the scorn she received when she admitted her short-lived romance with Hayden Kho?

I have never seen any of the videos of Katrina, or Maricar, or the Brazilian girl for that matter. How are we any different from Hayden Kho if we watch these videos and pass it on to others? After watching the video, what’s next? Are we actually above reproach and have better morals than Katrina to condemn her? Please.

We all have sisters, mothers, aunts, and friends who are also WOMEN. If we continue “patronizing” these videos, think of how you’d feel if something like this happened to somebody you know and care for.

Katrina did wrong by having sex outside the context of marriage. I disagree though with Dr. Belo when she said the videos should teach women not to snatch another woman’s boyfriend. She totally missed the point and sounded very bitter. Overall however, taking videos of very intimate moments covertly are wrong in so many levels. Katrina trusted and loved him. Hayden trivialized this feeling toward him and made her a part of his ‘collection.’ He is one sick, perverted, son-of-a-you-know-what! I can only imagine how he was brought up. I suggest UST start reviewing their entrance requirements for their MD program.

Hindi sya aatungal in public at nagpapaawa. In short, too bad. Karma’s such a bitch.

Katrina Halili, sana ay mabasa mo to.

If you read my comment again, I DIDN’T imply that Katrina, being a sinner herself, can NOT cry foul after what subsequently happened to her.

good day Jo ann, thanks sa tamang information regarding the bad issues.

Belo tinago pa niya hard disk for what? Salamat sa information and i pity Kat and the other girls so unfair talaga si Hayden.

I can’t stand people blaming Katrina for biting the hand that fed her, for getting involved w/ a taken man and for engaging in pre-marital sex. Susmaryosep!!! Ang double-standard at hypocrisy ng pinoy huh!!! Bakit ba sa babae lang tinituro and guilt if the man himself was taken, ang lalake mismo ang kumaliwa kaya kung tutuusin mas malaki ang nagawan niyang mali! Kho himself bit the hand that fed, employed, sustained him (and his family). Hello?!?!? Pre-marital sex is when someone engages in sex before marriage na clearly ay guilty silang dalawa not just Katrina!!! At is pa itong mommy ni Kho, they are all sick in the head–the whole Kho family!!!!

Ms. Editor, very eloquent and well-said piece. However, you claimed that the video became a monstrous aggression by one partner to another but you said so yourself that you have not seen the video.
Sex is sex. It’s a natural thing. Humans are sexual beings. Sure, what’s supposed to be a private and intimate moment between these two consenting adults became public. I felt horrible for all the parties involved, especially to Katrina. I would not wish what she’s going through right now on my worst enemy. Filipinos should stop being prude when it comes to sex. Both of them should have owned up to it. They should have said the minute this circus became big: “Yes, we were in that video(s). We were fools in love, neither one of us wanted that moment of intimacy and lust to get out, but unfortunately it did. Mea culpa. Please respect our privacy at this moment.” End of story.

The girl has suffered a lot. I wish her for the speedy inner recovery. God speed Katrina. very well said indeed ms. jo-an!

i really felt sorry for katrina and the scandal she is into right now. and so furious with those insensitive bastard who uploaded the videos. Sana ma karma sila. and i pray na sana mag bayad mga taong to for what they have done.

and to hayden, he is despicable! graveh…prevert…

i saw 2 of the videos…and i agree, there’s really nothing wrong with making love with the people you love. the only things that was wrong in there was the taking of the video without the girls consent…and if the purpose of the video is for hayden’s pleasure…sana di ni delete nya to before it falls down to the wrong hands…and on the first place wala nman ang scandal na to if di nya ni re-record mga intimate moments nya with different girls.

i so pray na sana matigil natong ganitong klaseng video. kasi kawawa talaga yong girl eh, kahit saang anggulo tingnan…and sana to katrina’s family, they should support here all the way…she needs it…

Bilang babae, isa din akong advocate ng equality et al so please stop the lecture about double standards and all that.

Please check your posts and stop contradicting your own points.

Madami pa ding tao na logical at marunong mag-analyze ng mga bagay so please, cut the drama off. Your mother studio owe you projects for you to prove your dramatic skills and not the nation.

To Miss Blonde-Skinny Bitch!

I agree with you about TIME CHANGING.

But never , ever use GOD, when you intend to insult somebody. Hope you get my point.

Another thing, never compare the sex video of Paris Hilton with what happened to Katrina. Paris knows that she is being taped. She was even wearing make-up and posing for the camera. In Katrina’s case, she was being videotaped without her knowledge, and that is a BIG VIOLATION on her part as a woman.

From your posting here it seems that you are really enjoying what happened to that poor girl. Excuse me for saying this, maybe you are SICK too just like Hayden.

Detection periods

The following chart from LabCorp gives approximate detection periods for each substance by test type.[2] The ranges depend on amount and frequency of use, metabolic rate, body mass, age, overall health, and urine pH. For ease of use, the detection times of metabolites have been incorporated into each parent drug. For example, heroin and cocaine can only be detected for a few hours after use, but their metabolites can be detected for several days in urine. In this type of situation, we will report the (longer) detection times of the metabolites.

* NOTE 1: Oral fluid or saliva testing results for the most part mimic that of blood. The only exceptions are THC and benzodiazepines. Oral fluid will likely detect THC from ingestion up to a maximum period of 18–24 hours. Low saliva:plasma ratio continues to cause difficulty in oral fluid detection of benzodiazepines [3]
* NOTE 2: Urine cannot detect current drug use. It takes approximately 6–8 hours or more post-consumption for drug to be metabolized and excreted in urine. Similarly, hair requires two weeks, and sweat, seven days.

Approximate values for detection periods Substance Urine Hair Blood / Oral Fluid
Alcohol 6–24 hours [4] Up to 90 days 12 hours
Amphetamines (except meth) 1 to 3 days[5] up to 90 days 12 hours
Methamphetamine 3 to 5 days[6] up to 90 days 1–3 days[6]
MDMA (Ecstasy) 4 days up to 90 days 25 hours
Barbiturates (except phenobarbital) 2 to 3 days up to 90 days 1 to 2 days
Phenobarbital 2 to 3 weeks[7] up to 90 days 4 to 7 days
Benzodiazepines Therapeutic use: 3 days. Chronic use (over one year): 4 to 6 weeks up to 90 days 6 to 48 hours
Cannabis 3 to 5 days, and sometimes up to 30 days[8] Up to 90 days [9] Up to 24 hours [10]
Cocaine 2 to 5 days with exceptions for certain kidney disorders[11] up to 90 days 2 to 5 days[12]
Codeine 2 to 3 days[13] up to 90 days 2 to 3 days[14]
Cotinine (a break-down product of nicotine) 2 to 4 days up to 90 days 2 to 4 days
Morphine 2 days up to 90 days 1 – 2 days
Heroin 3 to 4 days[15] up to 90 days 1– 2 days
LSD 24 to 72 hours (however tests for LSD are very uncommon) up to 3 days[citation needed] 0 to 3 hours
Methadone 3 days up to 97 days 24 hours
PCP 3 to 7 days for single use; up to 30 days in chronic users[16] up to 90 days 1 to 3 days[17]

Although some hits Katrina for her indiscreet affair with Kho, for me the issue is not this as Bello wants to when she said if a man has a girlfriend, they should not enter.. Ang kapal ng mukha ni Vicky Bello, retokada naman, Sa totoo lang di naman siya girlfriend ni Kho, cash cow, sugar mommy and all. Ha,ha ha. Nakabili siya ng boy toy. Correct si Lolit, magising ka na Bello and sympathize with the women victims of your boy toy.

finally nag-salita na rin ang network family ni Katrina (GMA 7), i think this would help katrina to stay strong and fight for the battle that she’s now facing.

bottom line here is nangayari na ang dapat mangyari and nangyari na yung kinakatakutan nla ng kumalat at lumaki ang issue..but still katrina is the victim pa rin kahit pano..sabihin nyo man na ksalanan nya dahil pumatol sya sa taong may karelasyon or whatever..but she don’t deserved to treat that way..lahat ng tao nagkakasala..kung asawa nga nkukuha ang boyfriend pa kaya…na madaling makuha at matukso. But GMA don’t stop supporting katrina…this is the time that she really needs the support of everybody..siguro manalo or matalo sia dito sa kaso na toh…for sure she’ll be happy dahil kahit paano alam nyang may nakasama at nakaramay sya sa laban na hinarap nya…thanks!

Just wondering, Ms.Jo-ann, considering there were many girls involved with Hyden in this sex video scandal, how come Katrina halili was singled out? I remember listening to Arnold Clavio’s radio program over DZBB and i can’t help but get annoyed with Lolit Solis as she would name names, without any second thoughts on the implications she could cause the ladies who had sexual relationship with Hyden. Was it her way of getting even with these ladies for Vicky Belo? In the news, Eric Chua pointed to Vicky Belo as the one who has possession of the sex video master copy. But before Eric made his confession, Lolit Solis was telling Arnold Clavio that according to Hyden, Eric will be pointing an accusing finger at Vicky. Lolit was always a step ahead of a suppose-to-be breaking news. I’d like to think na pakana nila ni Vicky Belo ang paglabas ng sex video ni Katrina to ruin her career, para pahiyain siya and to make Katrina pay for supposedly biting the hands of the one who’s feeding her. But what was suppose to be an act of paghihiganti, turned out to be a national issue. They did not see this coming. Thus, damage control has to be done. She never fails to say that Vicky Belo is such a nice person, that Vicky is also a victim here. Now that KC Concepcion’s name has been drag sa sex video issue, biglang kabig ang Lolit sa radio program ni Arnold Clavio. It was so easy for her to name Katrina, Ruffa Mae, Brazilian model,Maricar Reyes and a beauty queen and so on and so forth nung panahong wala pang lumalabas na video in public, pero nung dumadami na ang mga pangalan na nababanggit na nakarelasyon ni Hyden, kunwari eh, huwag-na-magbanggit-ng-pangalan-at dapat-protektahan-ang-mga-babae ang drama na niya. Today in Arnold’s radio program, she was saying that it was impossible for KC to get involve in this kind of act because mataas ang kanyang pinagaralan, nakapagtapos daw siya sa kanyang pag-aaral abroad. Never equate education with values.
I pity Katrina because even GMA 7, though nagsabi na they are behind her, supporting her in her battle, seems to be distancing themselves. When they saw that public sympathy was on Katrina’s side, dun lang sila naglabas ng stand nila about the issue but for awhile, they were quiet about the whole thing. What support are they giving her,I wonder. Are they helping her out with her court case? Will they be true to their word when they said may naghihintay na trabaho for Katrina? Only time can tell.

It can’t be denied that this piece of article by Ms. Maglipon was very well-written. I commend you for that although there are portions that I don’t agree with her.
Sex within the context of marriage and sex outside marriage are two different things. Sex is moral and legal only when consumed by the husbands and wives. It is wrong to give a justification that because most of the people in the society at this period of time are engaging in sexual activity just for the reasons that they are having boyfriend and girlfriend relationship or that they love each other so they want to express this by committing that act should be accepted already as moral and legal. As humans, we are spiritual beings so we live our lives with the teachings of God.Let us not try to impose our worldly desires as the basis of right and wrong.
Ms. Halili committed a sin. She made the people feel that she was so sorry for what she did. She should be because she did something wrong but Ms. Halili you need to face all the consequences of your acts. In the first place, you are a public figure and our countymen are looking at you with respect in a pedestal so you should have been thankful for this is freely given to you. You didn’t need to study formally for how many years in school and later on pass a board exam to practice your profession and yet the financial, social, and psychological rewards are so much for you to live a meaningful life. Stop crying, you had your piece of limelight. When I watched your sex video, you are not totally a victim because you of legal age consented to and enjoyed the act. Had there not been a video, you still committed the act out of the context of marriage and it is still a sin.
Mr. Kho is a person who has no respect for women and also a sinner because of committing the act out of marriage. You made your oath to serve the public and live by the code of ethics for doctors but you did not live by these because you stained the integrity of your profession with such act with the addition of videotaping.
The bottomline of this is that the family is still the basic and most influential unit of the society. Had it been they thought of their respective families, guidance and teachings taught by their parents before entering into that relationship and committing sexual acts there wouldn’t be any issue about them right now. They definitely have very meaningful life.

Thanks, Joan. I knew someone would write something sensible about this whole episode. I’ve been reading the news, blogs etc… and oftentimes it frustrates me that people’s warped sense of morality has overshadowed the real issue i.e. these women (Katrina, Maricar et al) are violated. If people keep on judging them, blaming them and labeling them as immorals, then they simply join the likes of Kho, Belo, Eric Chua, Bistek, Princess, whose sense of morality has plummeted to its lowest ebb.
What right do these people (Belo and gang) have to invade someone’s privacy? What right do this people have to sentence someone (Katrina, Maricar et al) to life for the wrong they think these girls have done to them? Since when is sleeping with someone’s boyfriend a crime liable to a life sentence? Should someone’s ex-girlfriend (Maricar) be shamed for life just because the women in this gang were insecure of her beauty and her talent and the boys in this gang were not able to sleep with her? I apologise if I am carried away by my sentiments, but I am also a woman and a mother. I cry for Katrina who has to lose face just because she has loved someone. I cry for Maricar who has to leave the country and hide elsewhere just because she too has loved this someone. While I cry for these girls, Vicky Belo parades her beautiful self in the company of the President…
